Kristen Stewart may be a fiyahhhh superstar whose work has been watched by millions of people around the world, but even an actress of her repute (read: sizzle) still had to prove her talent if she wanted to score a role in Woody Allen’s next movie. Which she did.
Stewart appeared on “Live With Kelly and Michael” this morning (August 17) to discuss her upcoming comedy-action release “American Ultra,” but she also dished on her upcoming role in Allen’s next project. She told Michael Strahan and guest host Jane Lynch all about the nerve-wracking experience of auditioning for the pic, which will reunite her once again with Jesse Eisenberg.
“[Allen] wasn’t in the room, but I did audition for it,” she remembered. “I wanted to take that tape with me. I walked out of that room and I was like, ’Uhhh.'”
Auditioning for parts isn’t something Stewart has to do regularly at this stage in her career — she’s usually approached for roles nowadays — so she found the process to be very “bizarre” and rattling, but ultimately rewarding.
“It’s weird, you’re not supposed to talk about Woody Allen movies before they’re out, but I think I’m probably allowed to generally say it’s a stretch for me,” Stewart explained. “And so I just wasn’t sure. So, I just cold read, and I was like, ’I have no concept of [the character],’
“It made me — I hadn’t been that exceptionally nervous in a long time — in that context,” she continued. “But it feels good to prove yourself because it’s weird when people just hand you roles, and you’re like, ’You’ve never even met me. You might hate me. You’re gonna spend three months making this thing.'”
But she got a major confidence boost after completing the audition and winning the role, knowing she’d earned the part and was truly right for it.
“Then I’m like, ‘OK, I’m telling you I can do this, and now I’ve proven it. And now we’re on.'”

In the as-yet-unnamed picture, Stewart will star alongside Eisenberg as well as Bruce Willis, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Corey Stoll, Tony Sirico and Ken Stott. The film is expected to begin production in New York and Los Angeles this month.
