If you own a Ford hybrid, the car company just gave you a new reason to consider getting a smartwatch.
Ford rolled out two new smartwatch apps Wednesday for the Android Wear and the Apple Watch. The apps allow users to unlock their doors, check their mileage and battery stats and find directions to where they parked.
The watch apps, which launched as part of an update to the company's MyFord Mobile apps foriOS and Android, are compatible with the company's battery electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles: the Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus Electric and Ford Fusion Energi.
It's not clear if the company plans to offer a similar app for other vehicles but many of the app's features are designed specifically for electric and hybrid vehicles. For instance, vehicle owners will be able to check their battery charge status and current range and see a summary of their current mileage.
Ford also notes the notifications, which let electric vehicle owners know when their current charge is complete, can help users avoid fees at charging stations that charge people who use more than their allotted time.

The app also includes a last trip summary, which breaks down the stats of their last drive, including miles per gallon (or miles per gallon equivalent), and ratings for your driving and braking efficiency.
Ford is just the latest car maker to create a smartwatch app. BMW teased a watch app earlier this year that allows you remotely park your car while Volvo's On Call app allows you to remotely start your car, unlock your doors, check fuel levels and find your last parking spot.
