RM Williams creates a new style of boot for women and that’s big news for the iconic bush brand
WHEN one style of boots are a brand’s staple it is a pretty big deal to design an entire new pair. So, when iconic name, RM Williams announced some new boots, it was pretty big news.
Called the Adelaide boot, the latest addition to RM Williams premium footwear, the style being a new take on the renowned men’s ‘Craftsman’ style, is set to be an Australian fashion icon.
The for-women, design is handcrafted from a single piece of leather and has been created as a versatile and classic addition for women.
Paying homage to the brand’s South Australian heritage, the Adelaide is a refined version of the classic men’s ‘Craftsman’ boot, which is also worn by women worldwide.
“We were looking for a name that had a feminine appeal that clearly linked it to Australia,” says RM Williams spokesman, Martin Rippon.
The name was created RM Williams factory staff at Salisbury, where its boots have continued to be made since the brand was bought by giant French conglomerate, LVMH.
The Adelaide reinterprets the functionality of the men’s classic Craftsman boot (and Matt Preston’s fave) but is slimmer, lighter and more refined than its more blokey counterpart.
The Adelaide has seven variations and is crafted from quality Yearling, Kangaroo, Suede and Crocodile leather. It’s available in black, chestnut, dark tan, chocolate and sand.
A pair will set you back around $475 but when you look at a cost-per-wear ratio, boot-lovers will say they are worth every cent.
Created by Reginald Murray Williams in 1932, the Craftsman boot was adopted by adventurers and over the decades, a pair of RM Williams boots have attracted loyalists from the Australian outback to global urban cities.
Established in 1932 in outback Australia, RM Williams developed a world-renowned reputation for its high quality handcrafted footwear and apparel and with the recent global acquisition of the brand, be prepared to see them on the style streets of New York, London, Paris and Milan.
