5 can't-miss apps: Yellow, 'Beneath the Lighthouse,' DSCO and more

  Beneath the Lighthouse

  In Beneath the Lighthouse, players must guide a young boy — lost underneath the circular caverns of a lighthouse — through each obstacle-filled chamber as he searches for his family. The game is simple, beautiful and unexpectedly challenging.
  
  
  
  How it works: Drag your finger around the outside circle of each level to rotate the space. As the game spins, the game’s hero moves with it. The goal of each level is to make it to the exit while avoiding obstacles and other hazards in your path.

  Leave it to the team that made photo-editing app VSCO to make a pretty GIF app. DSCO allows you to quickly create and share animated GIFs and edit them with VSCO effects.
  
  
  
  How it works: Shoot a short clip and swipe over the screen to add a filter. The filters are based on popular VSCO presets though the company says it will add limited edition presets.

  Kanvas

  AOL is officially entering the live streaming game with the latest update to Kanvas. The app still allows you to share photos, videos and GIFs, which you can trick out with stickers, filters, doodles and other animation but users now have the option to share in realtime with live streaming abilities.
  
  
  
  How it works: Begin a live broadcast and others on the app can follow your stream. Along with the usual realtime comments you can also add stickers, filters, GIFs, doodles and other animation while you stream.

  If you’re a runner and enjoy tracking your stats with Strava or Runkeeper, Running by Gyroscope allows you to create beautiful visualizations of your run stats.
  
  
  
  How it works: Connect the app to your Strava or Runkeeper account and the app imports stats from your recent runs. It offers a choice of several different visualizations that use everything from satellite imagery, your own photos or even how many donuts you burned.

  A bit like Tinder for Snapchat, Yellow doesn’t bill itself as a dating app but rather an app to make new friends on Snapchat. Connect your Snapchat account, upload a selfie and swipe left or right to connect with new people to follow.
  
  
  
  How it works: Connect the app with your Snpachat account — you’ll need to verify your phone number — and add a photo of yourself. The app shows you the profiles of other users. Swipe right if you see someone you want to follow on Snapchat and see their usernames if both of you swipe right.
  
  
  
  Pro-tip: Though the dynamics are similar to Tinder, there are no user bios, in-app chats or other features typically found in these types of apps. If you match, you can choose whether or not you want to add another user on Snapchat.
